Smart Thermostat Installation Without the Guesswork

A smart thermostat is one of the easiest upgrades for a Florida home. You can change the temperature from your phone, set schedules that fit your week, and check on the house when you’re away. The tricky part is the install. Behind your old thermostat is a bundle of small, color-coded wires, and one wire on the wrong terminal can mean an AC that won’t start, a heat pump that heats when it should cool, or a blank screen.

That’s where AMB Works comes in. Our technicians come from an appliance repair background, so careful work with low-voltage control wiring is part of our everyday routine. We check that your thermostat matches your system, swap it onto the wiring already in your wall, connect it to Wi-Fi, and confirm your heating and cooling respond before we leave.

We serve homeowners, landlords, vacation-rental owners, and property managers across Central Florida. We also install smart doorbells and smart locks, often in the same visit.

One thing to know up front: this is an installation service on existing low-voltage wiring. We don’t do electrical work, and we don’t diagnose or repair HVAC systems. Details are below so you know exactly what to expect.

What’s Included in Your Smart Thermostat Installation

Every install follows the same careful process. Here’s what you get:

  • Compatibility check. Before anything comes off the wall, we compare your existing wiring and system type against the requirements for the thermostat you bought.
  • Wire labeling. We label and photograph your existing wires before disconnecting them, so there’s a record of the original setup.
  • Old thermostat removal. We take down the old unit and wall plate. Want to keep it? We’ll leave it with you.
  • Mounting the new base. We mount the new base level and secure, and install the included trim plate if your model has one and the old footprint needs covering.
  • Connecting your existing wires. Each wire goes on the correct terminal for your system, including the reversing valve wire on heat pumps.
  • Setup and configuration. We run the on-screen setup and enter the correct system type, fan, and equipment settings.
  • Wi-Fi and app connection. We connect the thermostat to your Wi-Fi and help you link it to the manufacturer’s app.
  • Function test. We confirm cooling, heat, and fan all respond to the new thermostat.
  • Walkthrough and cleanup. We show you the basics, then haul off the packaging and any old parts you don’t want.

Smart Thermostats We Install

You purchase the thermostat; we handle the installation. Here are the models we install:

Google Nest

We install the Nest Learning Thermostat, the Nest Thermostat, and the Nest Thermostat E. Power and wiring requirements differ between Nest models and system types, so we confirm your setup first.

ecobee

We install the ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium, ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced, and ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential. If your model came with room sensors, we can place and pair them during the visit.

Honeywell Home T-Series

We install Honeywell Home T-series smart thermostats, including models such as the T5, T6 Pro, T9, and T10 Pro.

Amazon Smart Thermostat

We install the Amazon Smart Thermostat, a budget-friendly option that works with Alexa. It has specific power requirements, which is a good reason to check your wiring before you buy.

Emerson Sensi

We install Emerson Sensi smart thermostats, including Sensi Touch and standard Sensi models, a solid fit for many homes and rentals.

Don’t see your thermostat? Call or text us the brand and model. If it’s a low-voltage smart thermostat made to replace a standard wall thermostat, there’s a good chance we can install it.

AMB Works is an independent installation company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the thermostat brands listed on this page. Product warranties and support are provided by the manufacturer.

Compatibility Check: Will a Smart Thermostat Work in Your Home?

Most central air conditioning and heat pump systems in Central Florida use a low-voltage (24V) thermostat, and that’s exactly what smart thermostats are designed to replace. Here’s what we look at:

Your system type. Many Florida homes use a heat pump for both cooling and heating; others have a straight AC with electric heat strips or a gas furnace. Heat pumps use a reversing valve wire (usually labeled O or B) that must be set correctly, or the system can heat when you want it to cool.

Your existing wires. We note how many wires are at the thermostat and which terminals they use. Some smart thermostats need more connections than others.

Whether you already have a C-wire. Many smart thermostats need a constant power wire, called a C-wire (common wire), to run the Wi-Fi and screen. Some homes already have one connected, some have an unused spare wire behind the wall plate, and some have none. We check what’s already there.

The manufacturer’s requirements. We compare your wiring against the published requirements for the exact model you bought.

If you don’t have a C-wire

We’ll tell you plainly and talk through your options. Some models are designed to work without a C-wire on certain systems. Some manufacturers also offer a power adapter accessory that connects to existing low-voltage wiring at the indoor HVAC unit. Whether that fits depends on your thermostat and equipment, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s something we can do on your existing wiring or a job for a licensed HVAC contractor or electrician.

Our tip: Before you buy, send us a clear photo of the wires behind your current thermostat (take the faceplate off gently) along with the model you’re considering. We’ll take a look and let you know if anything stands out.

What We Don’t Do (Please Read Before Booking)

We want you to know exactly what’s included, so there are no surprises on the day of your appointment.

Our smart thermostat installation scope

We DO:

  • Install new smart thermostats on your existing low-voltage (24V) thermostat wiring
  • Set up the device, connect it to your Wi-Fi, and link it to the app during the install
  • Test that heating, cooling, and fan respond to the new thermostat

We DON’T:

  • Do electrical work of any kind — AMB Works is not an electrical contractor
  • Run new thermostat wire or pull wire through walls
  • Add a C-wire that isn’t already present in your existing wiring
  • Install or replace line-voltage (120V/240V) thermostats, such as those used for electric baseboard or wall heaters
  • Do any electrical panel or breaker work
  • Diagnose or repair heating and cooling systems (AC, heat pump, furnace, air handler)
  • Troubleshoot or repair smart thermostats or apps after the install

If your home needs any of the above, we’ll let you know and recommend you contact a licensed electrician or licensed HVAC contractor.

A few situations come up often:

  • The AC isn’t working right now. A new thermostat usually won’t fix a system that isn’t cooling or heating. Have a licensed HVAC contractor check it first, then call us.
  • Your system is complex. Multi-stage, dual-fuel, zoned systems, or accessories wired to the thermostat may need an HVAC contractor’s setup.
  • Your thermostat runs on high voltage. Thick wires or “120V”/”240V” labels usually mean a line-voltage thermostat, which requires an electrician.

Smart Thermostat Installation Pricing

Installation runs 185–250, depending on the device and your home’s setup. That price covers the installation labor described above. The thermostat itself is not included — you purchase it separately from the store or website of your choice, so you get the exact model you want.

Where you fall in that range depends on the model, whether room sensors need pairing, and the condition of the existing wall opening. You’ll get a clear, upfront price before work begins.

Why Smart Thermostats Make Sense in Florida Homes

Better control over cooling costs

In Central Florida, the AC works hard most of the year. A smart thermostat lets you schedule around when you’re actually home, adjust from your phone if you forgot before leaving, and review usage in the app. Savings depend on your home, system, and habits, but real control and visibility is a big step up from a basic thermostat.

Keeping an eye on humidity

Florida heat comes with Florida humidity. Many smart thermostats show indoor humidity right in the app, so you can keep an eye on conditions inside the house, even when you’re away. If you want your thermostat to control dedicated dehumidification equipment, that’s something to set up with your HVAC contractor.

Hurricane season and power outages

When storm outages hit, your thermostat goes down with the power. Once power and internet are back, many smart thermostats let you confirm from your phone that the system restarted and the house is cooling — valuable peace of mind if you evacuated or are staying elsewhere.

Vacation rentals and property managers

For short-term rental owners, a smart thermostat makes turnovers easier: pre-cool before guests arrive, reset after checkout, and check settings between stays without driving over. Pair it with a smart lock for keyless entry and a smart doorbell to see who’s at the door. We also handle vacation rental appliance repair across Central Florida, so you have one local team for appliances and smart-home installs.

Snowbirds and seasonal residents

Spend part of the year up north? Manage your Florida home from wherever you are. Many seasonal residents keep the AC running at a moderate setting while away to help control humidity (your HVAC contractor can recommend the right setting), then cool the house down remotely before they arrive.
