Common Whirlpool Problems We Repair in Central Florida

Whirlpool is one of the most common appliance brands in Central Florida homes, rentals and vacation properties. Most Whirlpool service calls we run in Clermont, Orlando and the surrounding cities come down to a handful of repeat problems. Here is what we see most often, and what usually causes it.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair

• Not cooling or fresh-food section warm: Dirty condenser coils, a failed condenser or evaporator fan, or a defrost problem (heater, thermostat or control) that lets frost block the airflow from the freezer.
• Ice maker not making ice or making small cubes: A clogged water filter, low water pressure, a failed water inlet valve or a frozen fill tube.
• Clicking, then the compressor won’t run: Often a failed start relay or overload, which is far cheaper than a compressor. We test before condemning anything.
• Water leaking under the refrigerator: A frozen defrost drain or a leaking water line connection.

Whirlpool Washer Repair

• Won’t spin or drain: A clogged drain pump, a failed lid lock, a worn shifter or a bad motor control. Small items stuck in the pump are a very common cause.
• Lid lock flashing or won’t start: A failed lid lock assembly or wiring fault on top-load models.
• Error codes such as F5 E2, F7 E1 or F9 E1: Whirlpool washers report lid, motor and drain faults. We confirm the code with meter tests and fix the cause rather than just clearing it.
• Loud banging on spin: Worn suspension rods, a failing tub bearing or an unbalanced load.

Whirlpool Dryer Repair

• No heat: A heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat on electric models; an igniter or gas valve coils on gas models.
• Long dry times: Usually a restricted dryer vent, which is very common in Florida homes with long vent runs.
• Squealing, thumping or won’t turn: Worn drum rollers, a broken belt or a failing idler pulley.

Whirlpool Dishwasher, Range and Microwave Repair

• Over-the-range microwave not heating: Door switches, a blown fuse or a failed high-voltage part. Microwaves store dangerous voltage even when unplugged, so we recommend leaving this repair to a technician.

• Vacuum the refrigerator condenser coils twice a year, more often for garage refrigerators.
• Replace the refrigerator water filter every six months.
• Clean the dryer vent every year and the lint screen every load.
• Clean the dishwasher filter once a month.
• Run a washer cleaning cycle monthly and leave the door or lid open to dry to prevent odor and mold in Florida humidity.

What to Check Before You Call

• Check the breaker and outlet, and make sure the appliance is plugged in.
• Write down any error code or flashing light.
• For a refrigerator, check that the vents inside aren’t blocked by food and the doors seal fully.
