Common GE Problems We Repair in Central Florida
GE, GE Profile and Café appliances are in a large share of Central Florida homes, rentals and vacation properties. Most GE service calls we run in Clermont, Orlando and the surrounding cities come down to a handful of repeat problems. Here is what we see most often, and what usually causes it.
GE Refrigerator Repair
- Fresh-food section warm but freezer cold: Very often frost blocking the evaporator coil because of a failed defrost heater, defrost thermostat or control, or a failed evaporator fan.
- Not cooling at all: Dirty condenser coils, a failed condenser fan, a start relay or inverter control fault, or a sealed-system problem.
- Ice maker not making ice: A clogged filter, a failed water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or a failed ice maker.
- Water on the floor or ice under the crisper drawers: A frozen or clogged defrost drain.
- Clicking or buzzing noises: Fans hitting ice, a failing fan motor or a compressor start problem.
AMB Works is EPA Universal certified for refrigerant work, so we can diagnose sealed-system problems properly when that is the real cause. See our refrigerator repair page.
GE Washer Repair
- Won’t spin or drain: A clogged drain pump, a failed lid lock, a worn shifter or a motor control problem.
- UL or UE error codes: These point to an unbalanced load, but repeat codes usually mean worn suspension, a failing tub bearing or a motor/control fault.
- Leaks: A torn door boot on front-load models, a failing pump seal or a loose hose inside the cabinet.
- Won’t start or stops mid-cycle: Lid switches, door locks, water valves or the control board.
More on our washer repair page.
GE Dryer Repair
- No heat: A heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat on electric models; an igniter or gas valve coils on gas models.
- Long dry times: Usually a restricted dryer vent, which is very common in Florida homes.
- Noise or drum won’t turn: Worn rollers or glides, a broken belt or a failing idler pulley.
See dryer repair.
GE Range, Oven and Cooktop Repair
- Oven not heating or not reaching temperature: Bake or broil elements, gas igniters, the temperature sensor or the control board. Our blog post on a GE oven not heating properly covers the most common causes.
- F-codes on the display: GE ovens report sensor, door lock and control faults. We confirm the code with tests before replacing parts.
- Burner won’t light or keeps clicking: A wet or misaligned burner cap, a cracked igniter or a failed spark module.
- Glass cooktop element not heating: A failed surface element, infinite switch or control.
GE Dishwasher and Microwave Repair
- Dishwasher not cleaning, draining or drying: Clogged filters, a failed drain pump, a worn wash motor or a heating element. See dishwasher repair.
- Over-the-range microwave not heating: Door switches, a blown fuse or a failed high-voltage part. Microwaves can hold a dangerous charge even when unplugged, so leave these repairs to a technician.
GE, GE Profile and Café
We repair all three GE lines. GE Profile and Café models add features such as built-in Wi-Fi, hot water dispensers, convection and air-fry modes, and more complex controls, but they share many core parts with standard GE appliances. That means many common repairs can be done quickly. For built-in GE Monogram appliances, see our GE Monogram repair page.
Repair or Replace Your GE?
Most GE repairs are worth doing. Fans, defrost parts, water valves, pumps, lid locks, igniters and elements are reasonable repairs that cost much less than a new appliance. Replacement starts to make sense when an older refrigerator out of warranty needs a compressor, when a washer needs a tub or transmission, or when an appliance more than 12–15 years old needs a major part. We give you the diagnosis and an upfront price before any work begins.
GE Maintenance Tips for Florida Homes
- Vacuum the refrigerator condenser coils twice a year, more often for garage refrigerators.
- Replace the water filter every six months to protect the ice maker and water valve.
- Clean the dryer vent every year and the lint screen every load.
- Clean the dishwasher filter monthly.
- Leave the washer door open between loads to prevent mold and odor in Florida humidity.
What to Check Before You Call
- Check the breaker and make sure the appliance has power.
- Write down any error code or flashing light.
- For a refrigerator, make sure the vents inside aren’t blocked and the doors close fully.
- Take a photo of the model and serial number label and text it to (352) 757-0949. It helps us bring the right parts.
What Happens on a GE Service Call
Your technician confirms the problem, tests the parts involved, and explains what failed and why. You get an upfront price before any repair starts. Many common GE parts are on the truck, so many repairs are finished on the first visit; if a part has to be ordered, we schedule the return trip as soon as it arrives. AMB Works repairs the appliance itself; we do not do electrical wiring, gas-line or plumbing work, and we will tell you if a problem needs a licensed electrician or plumber.
We serve GE owners in Clermont and across Central Florida, including Orlando. Orlando customers can also see our Orlando refrigerator repair, Orlando washer repair and Orlando range repair pages. Ready to schedule? Book online or call or text (352) 757-0949.
